Prague/Brussels – The Platform team, consisting of Mr. Marek Mutor (president), Mr. Wojciech Bednarski, and Mr. Tszwai So, met last week in Brussels with representatives of EU institutions to intensify the initiative to build a Pan-European Memorial to the Victims of Totalitarianism. The meetings with the Europarliament’s Group European Remembrance (Sophie Wilmes, Bogdan Zdrojewski, Andrzej Halicki, Rasa Jukneviciene, Julija Ravaityte, Sławomir
Moćkun), the House of European History (Constanze Itzel) and the event at the Permanent Represenatation of Republic of Lithuania to the EU took place on Dec 3 – 4. Representatives from Albania, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, Latvia, the Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine, and other countries were present, indicating broad international interest in the initiative.

The event hosted by the Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the European Union and the Embassy of Lithuania in Belgium and Luxembourg included the participation of Lithuania’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Sigitas Mitkus, and brought together representatives of several diplomatic missions and international institutions. During the event, the project team introduced detailed visualisations of the Memorial, outlined the project roadmap, and addressed key questions from attending delegations. The project partners also noted the continued support of Alain Hutchinson, Brussels Commissioner for Europe and International Organisations.

With the completion of this presentation and the exchange that followed, the project moves into its next phase, supported by ongoing cooperation with European and international stakeholders.
