Prague Conference on Disinformation and Hybrid Activities

Prague, 26 September – An expert conference entitled “Disinformation and Hybrid Activities, Response of State and Public Institutions” was held in the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic on Monday on 25 September 2023. The conference was opened by the Minister of the Interior Vít Rakušan under the auspices of the Chairman of the Committee on Security Pavel Žáček. The aim of the conference was to present the activities of individual ministries and institutions against disinformation and hybrid activities. Platform was represented at the conference by Peter Rendek, Managing Director.

The conference brought together experts from the fields of history, public media, psychology, intelligence and security services. In his opening speech, Minister of the Interior Vít Rakušan stressed the key importance of education, which goes hand in hand with increasing the resilience of society to hybrid threats. Director of the Czech counterintelligence agency BIS Brig. Gen. Michal Koudelka spoke about the current activities of the Russian secret services in the field of influence operations in the Czech Republic.

In the first opening panel, which focused on the historical background of disinformation, Peter Rendek outlined the Platform’s perspective on the current Russian hybrid threats in a paper entitled “Hybrid Warfare and the Field of Memory Policy from the Perspective of an International Organization”. He also presented chronologically the activities and international projects in the field of history education. He highlighted activities and the area of cooperation with European institutions, in particular the European Parliament resolution on the importance of remembrance for the future of Europe, with emphasis on the information war and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He pointed out the current framework of Russian hybrid activities in the field of history education towards the domestic audience and abroad.

The Committee on Security is a body of the Lower House of the Parliament of the Czech Republic that deals with key aspects of the internal and external security of the state and is accountable to the Chamber of Deputies.
