Prague, 10 June – Platform President Marek Mutor attended the grand opening of the new Museum of the Victims of Communism in Washington, DC on 6 June 2022.

The museum was set up and is run by the Platform member organisation the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation and its creation was generously supported by the governments of Eastern and Central Europe (Poland, Hungary). The new museum will be open to the general public from 13 June 2022 from Monday to Friday.

The opening of this museum is an important day both for the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation and for the entire Platform of European Memory and Conscience. A few hundred meters from the White House on 900 15th Street, NW Washington, D.C., there is now a space to remember the victims of Communism around the world and to educate the younger generation about the bloody communist regimes and their legacy in the world.

Although Communism has not been properly condemned by the international community, such museums have a special mission to raise awareness, educate future generations and help keep democracy more resilient.

During his visit to the USA, the Platform President Marek Mutor met with the President and CEO of VOC Amb. Andrew Bremberg, Hon. Don Ritter and other representatives, with whom he discussed further deepening of future cooperation and joint projects.

The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation is an educational, research, and human rights nonprofit devoted to commemorating the more than 100 million victims of Communism around the world and to pursuing the freedom of those still living under totalitarian regimes. It is an active member organisation of the Platform.
