Meeting with the representatives of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, USA

Prague, 3 November – The Platform (PEMC) Managing Director Mr Peter Rendek, Project Coordinator Ms Anabela Žigová and Mr Donald Lawrence Ritter, the Trustee and the Member of the Board of Directors and Ms Kristina Olney, the Director of Government Relations from the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, met on 3 November in Prague.

Together they built on previous cooperation and discussed current ongoing activities such as the opening of a museum in Washington and mutual international cooperation in the field of remembrance, education, exhibitions, etc. Mr Donald Lawrence Ritter, a former Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania (1979 – 1993), stressed the importance of networking and education in the field of the history of Communism and added “Americans never experienced communism as a nation, so the works of organizations like yours are essential to fulfilling our institutional depth of focus and ability to best deliver our message.”

The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation is a non-profit anti-communist organisation in the United States, authorised by a unanimous Act of Congress in 1993 for the purpose of “educating Americans about the ideology, history and legacy of communism.” It has been a member of the PEMC since November 2013.The organisation was responsible for building the Victims of Communism Memorial in Washington, D.C.
