16 May, Prague – Representatives of Taiwanese government agency, the Ill-gotten Party Assets Settlement Committee (CIPAS), led by Mr Lin Feng-Jenq, Chairperson, visited the Platform office in Prague. They met with the Platform Managing Director Mr. Peter Rendek and Mr. Pavel Žáček, a Czech historian and MP. The aim of the visit was to share the experience of handling transitional justice issues and ill-gotten party assets of Taiwan, and to learn more about how the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia) dealt with transitional issues after previous totalitarian regimes.
The CIPAS was established under the authority of the Statute for the Handling of Ill-gotten Assets by Political Parties and Their Affiliate Organizations, which was passed by Taiwan’s parliament on 25 July 2016. Under the authority of the Act, CIPAS is authorized to handle the problem of the political party’s ill-gotten assets obtained by the former authoritarian regime.
