Platform Council of Members meeting – House of Europe, The Hague, 12-13 November 2013

Prague / The Hague, 10 November 2013. The Platform of European Memory and Conscience is holding its annual Council of Members meeting at the House of Europe in The Hague, Netherlands. The meeting will open on 12 November by a guest lecture by Kurt Schrimm, Head of the Central Office for the Prosecution of National Socialist Crimes, Ludwigsburg, Germany, on the new wave of prosecutions after the Demjanjuk trial. A panel discussion on the EU citizens` right to justice and totalitarian crimes will follow, with Sandra Kramer, head of Unit 1, DG Justice of the European Commission, Sandra Kalniete, MEP, Łukasz Kamiński, President of the Institute of National Remembrance, Poland, Boštjan Kolarič, Study Centre for National Reconciliation, Slovenia, and Florian Kresse, Union of Victims of Communist Tyranny, Germany.  Platform Members and Membership candidates will then present their international projects, ranging from the Ukraine through Romania, Estonia, Poland, Germany and other EU member states to Iceland, Canada and the United States. On 12 November in the evening, a public panel debate “Roots of Totalitarianism” will be held at the R.C. Spritual Centre De Boskant, with prof. Vytautas Landsbergis, MEP, , MEP, Prof. Stéphane Courtois, Prof. Theo de Wit and Jan Marinus Wiersma, former MEP, at the occasion of the opening of the Platform`s international travelling exhibition “Totalitarianism in Europe“.
On 13 November, internal agenda of the Platform will be discussed, elections of a new Board will take place and decisions on new Membership applications will be taken. A visit to the International Criminal Court will conclude the meeting.
