International conference “Totalitarianism, Deportation and Emigration” on 28-30 June 2016 in Viljandi, Estonia

EE_bannerThe Platform of European Memory and Conscience cordially invites to an international conference with the title Totalitarianism, Deportation and Emigration  – The forced displacement of population and waves of migration in 20th century Europe caused by the policy of totalitarian states“ which will be held at the Estonian Traditional Music Centre in Viljandi, Estonia on 28-30 June 2016. Co-organisers are the Estonian Institute of Historical Memory and the Unitas Foundation. The conference will bring together more than twenty speakers, historians, political scientists, representatives of victims’ associations, eyewitnesses and decision makers from twelve countries. As a highlight, the Prize of the Platform of European Memory and Conscience 2016 will be awarded on the first day. The event will conclude with a panel discussion on the massive emigration from war and conflict regions in the Middle East and North Africa to Europe, its reasons, historical roots and parallels.
